The Otter Satin Angora Project

A couple days ago I joined a group on Facebook called "Otter Satin Angora Project". What the group is is specializing in breeding and working with Otter, a gorgeous, yet unshowable group of colors. If you are interested in joining for breeding reasons or just out of curiousity how Heather's babies will turn out, you can join the group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/538968489607593/

NOTE: Please only join this group if you have knowledge of the satin Angora breed in general. We are looking to improve this breed and work with Otter Satin Angoras.

Here is ther latest update from Heather Campbell of Oceanside Angoras, owner of the group:

"We are at least 2 years away from obtaining a COD. But it's never too early to start planning. COD holders will be formed in two groups:

Group A - will apply first Group B - will apply for a backup COD

All 4 colors (black, blue, chocolate, lilac) will be sought to be included in the COD

Rabbits utilized for the COD must be a minimum of 5 generations purebred, and ideally 3 generations pure otter breeding. (AtAt)

COD holders must commit to breeding at least 10 litters for the COD per year, and up to 20 (Yes 20) breedings a year once the COD is active. You will need approximately 20-30 holes to devote to this project once we are active.

COD holders will be expected to SHOW their otters once a COD is active. Asking for judges opinions before this is strongly encouraged.

COD holders will all be expected to bring or send 3 family groups (12 rabbits) to each convention. We will show the ones not chosen for the table.

Culling is necessary, you will be asked to cull hard on type, and coat along with otter factor.

No other cross breeding besides satin otter is encouraged. This is to keep the satin factor high.

Photos need to be posted as much as possible, along with standard type photos.

Basic understanding of the otter color and what to cross is expected. Also on Fox and how they can be utilized, or avoided in our program.

Please read the rules in the SOP on COD's and understand we must follow these rules in every way. If we don't, we won't pass."

As you can see, this is an elaborate project. I, myself, am not doing the Otter Project yet. I'm still working on the color intensity of Reds, Fawns, Dilutes, and working with Pearls and Torts. However, when I'm a little more steady with this and have enough time to dedicate myself to this, then I will try to work with Otter's.
