On this page, I will give you a list of all the ARBA-accepted Satin Angora colors and what colored rabbits to breed together to achieve another color...kind of like mixing paint, except mixing genes!

NOTE: This page in under construction! Not all the colors are listed on this page, yet. We are still conducting research and will finish this page, shortly. Thanks for your patience.

Here's ALSO an Awesome Angora rabbit genetic page if you want to get more technical:

HOW TO ACHIEVE THESE COLORS

REW

REW stands for "Ruby-eyed White". I decided to start with this "color" because it is probably the most bizarre of them all. For you see, REW isn't actually a color. As strange as that sounds, let me explain it. REW rabbits are actually albino, but beneath the white fur and red eyes is another color hiding. You can actually determine what color REW rabbits really are is by breeding them a few times to a colored rabbit (make sure both rabbits have pedigrees). REW's cannot carry any patterned or colored gene.

HOW TO ACHIEVE IT:

You can breed a REW to any other color rabbit to get the REW gene in the litter. Most colored rabbits carry it, so you can have REW's pop up in every litter. This gene is rarer in Satin Angora's and is the common color for Giant and German Angora's.

AGOUTI

Agouti is an interesting but very dominant gene. Unlike other genes, you only need to have one Agouti parent to produce Agouti offspring. You can determine Agouti patterns right after the kits are born! Agouti kits usually have black bodies with pink bellies. Chestnut and Chocolate Agoutis are the most common.

HOW TO ACHIEVE IT:

Agouti's can only be achieved by breeding to other Agouti's or Self-colors. (Self colored means the rabbit is only one color).

POINTED-COLORS

The pointed colors are probably my favorite. What does pointed mean? Pointed means that the rabbit is white, but had different colored ears, nose, face, and paws. The face tends to be shaded in a little bit. Pointed rabbits are the same coloring as California Rabbits...or if you want an easier comparison, Siamese cats.

HOW TO ACHIEVE IT:

Pointed-colors are achieved by breeding REW's, Self-colors, Sable, and Copper. White rabbits that are not REW's can be bred, also.

SELF-COLORED

These rabbits are basic and easy to identify. Self colored means that the rabbit is only one color. Self colored usually start out as black or chocolate colored but some self-colored rabbits may carry a dilute gene, resulting in lilac or blue (blue is black diluted and lilac is a chocolate dilute).

HOW TO ACHIEVE IT:

These colors are achieved by breeding other self-colors, agouti's, torts, pointed colors, and fawn.
